Atalanta advanced to the Champions League round of 16 after a dramatic 4–1 win over Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday, sealing a 4–3 aggregate triumph courtesy of a stoppage-time penalty from Lazar Samardzic.
Dortmund, who carried a 2–0 advantage from the first leg, were immediately put under pressure as Atalanta wiped out the deficit before halftime through goals from Gianluca Scamacca and Davide Zappacosta.
Mario Pasalic then put the Italian side ahead on aggregate, but Karim Adeyemi responded with a brilliant individual effort to draw Dortmund level in the tie.

ADVERTISE WITH USJust as extra time loomed, Ramy Bensebaini was penalised for a high boot that caught Nikola Krstovic in the face inside the area. Referee Jose Sanchez awarded the penalty and showed Bensebaini a second yellow card.
Samardzic stepped up and fired home in the 98th minute, effectively the final kick of the game, to complete a thrilling comeback.
Atalanta will meet either Premier League leaders Arsenal or German champions Bayern Munich in the last 16, with the draw to be held on Friday.
