The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Monday criticised the senator representing the FCT, Ireti Kingibe, over her comments regarding movement restrictions during the just-concluded local council elections in Abuja.
Speaking at his first monthly media parley for 2026 in the capital, Wike dismissed Kingibe’s remarks and accused her of failing to properly understand his earlier statement on the matter. He said the directive on movement restrictions was approved by President Bola Tinubu and not a unilateral decision by him.
“You don’t read; you only look at love magazines,” Wike said, reacting to the senator’s position. He maintained that he neither declared a curfew nor announced a public holiday in the FCT ahead of the council polls.
The minister insisted that the temporary restrictions were part of measures to ensure security and order during the elections. He added that his comments had been misrepresented and urged critics to verify facts before making public statements.
