A 43-year-old man, Nurudeen Babatola, appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, facing allegations of stealing sugar worth over N62 million.
Babatola is standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and theft. The offences are said to have occurred between January 18 and 20 at No. 4B, Regina Coker Street, off Kofoworola, Ikeja.
The prosecutor, Supol Josephine Khatere, told the court that Babatola, along with two others who are currently at large, allegedly stole quantities from 888 bags of sugar belonging to GPC Energy and Logistics Ltd, valued at N62.16 million. She said the theft rendered the goods unmarketable, leading to rejection by customers.
